The "some guy" is the dad. he isn't taking "her" kids off "her" hands—he's parenting their children. the "fat check" is what he would have to pay a house cleaner, cook, nanny, etc. for all those years if he didn't have a wife who gave up her career (because they both agreed that's what they wanted) to care for their children and home . fixed it!
