That is already happening, in baby steps, with such organizations such as Co-Abode, for single moms, Hope Meadows, for foster families, intentional communities (the new word for communes, as far as I can tell) and others. In my ideal world, it wouldn’t be just women who want/need this; there are many men who want to have children and will require the same support that any parent wants and needs — a support system. The nuclear family model doesn’t work for many of us; I say we need modern-day alloparents or what I call carenting. It’s doable.
