I have to respectfully disagree. Madonna has always been the mistress of reinvention. She has never tried to be a role model or standard-bearer—that is what society thrust upon her, but it wasn't sought after. She wanted to push the limits for herself, as well all might want to.

Looking to celebrities as a way to "age gracefully" — a term that is highly damaging—benefits no one. Their world is not ours.

Yes, I love that Frances McDormand and other actors reject cosmetic procedures and welcome their wrinkles; I do the same. That said, I have long admired and respected Madonna for being her own woman, and a highly successful one at that. I might not want to look like her, but I sure trust her to live her own life on her terms. As we all might want to.
