As I write in my book, there’s a problem with couples who move in together because of financial reasons. You’re basically turning a romantic decision into a financial decision: “It sure would be cheaper if we lived together.”

And yes, it would be cheaper. Yet looking solely at the financial savings of moving in together doesn’t take into consideration other costs, such as the psychological cost if you have to live farther away from your own social network of family and friends, or work/school, or healthcare providers.

Plus couples who cohabit break up more often that those who don't—so you're each going to end up having to look for new places to live.
